Describe the structure of the skin and their functions |
Skin is a Larger organ of the body, an average square inch of skin contains 650 sweat glands, 20 blood vessels, and more than 1,000 nerve endings. Despite being just a few millimeters thick, skin makes up around one-seventh of our body weight. Skin covering an average of 20 square feet, Its most obvious job is to protect our insides from the outside, but there is much more to the skin than that. Alongside its role as a protective barrier, the skin helps us maintain the right internal temperature and allows us to sense the world through nerve endings. Layers of the skin Epidermis: The epidermis is the outermost layer of skin, provides a waterproof barrier and creates our skin tone. The epidermis can be further subdivided into the following layers: • Stratum corneum • Stratum Lucidum ( Only in palm and soles) • Stratum granulosum • Stratum germinativum ( Basal layer) Dermis: Dermis beneath the epidermis, contains tough connective tissue, hair follicles, and sweat glands. The deeper subcutaneous tissue (hypodermis) is made of fat and connective tissue. The dermisis divided into two further layers . • The papillary layer • The reticular layer Hypodermis : Hypodermis is not a part of the skin lies below the dermis , its purpose is to attach the skin to underlying bone and muscles as well as supplying it with blood vessels and nerves . |

1. Before starting any treatment, always do a patch test. 2. Avoid going out in the sun just after getting a facial done. Use a sunblock cream. 3. Do not undergo a facial procedure if you have bruises or burns on your face. Wait for them to heal first. 4. Avoid using soap on your face for at least a day or two after the facial. 5. Steaming should be carried out only twice a month as frequent steaming could result in extreme drying of the facial skin. 6. After the steaming, advice the client not to go to a place where there is an air conditioner or a fan immediately after steaming as this could cause damage to the facial skin. |
