Definition, Purpose&Tools of manicure |
Manicure is a Latin word which is made up of two words Manus+ Cura, in which (Manus means hands & nails and cura means care). Hence caring of hands & nails is called manicure. There are various purposes of manicure such as :- 1. Cleaning & shaping of nails 2. Care of hands & nails 3. Removing of dead skin cells from the hands and around the nails. 4. Improving blood circulation and stimulate blood flow. 5. Decorate the nails painting with nail varnish of different colors. 6. For relaxing of hands. |

There are variety of different types of manicure such as:- 1. Plain Manicure- It is a simple type of manicure in which the normal & necessary steps of manicure are included such as cleaning of hands & nails, shaping of nails, massage of hands & nails and nail varnish application. 2. Hot oil manicure- It is generally use in treatments. The clients who have rough, hard & dead skin on hands & around the nails, it is specially designed for that type of client. Special types of oils are used to cure these type of condition. Infra-red lamp is also used to heal the condition of dry hands . 3. Electric Manicure- It is a type of manicure in which electrical manicure set is used to do the manicure. All the attachments of this manicure set is electrically operated, hence special care should be taken while operating this type of manicure set. 4. Paraffin Wax Manicure:-It’s a manicure that includes paraffin wax—a colorless, odorless wax derived from beeswax and petroleum. The nail technician dips hands into the heated wax (or uses a brush to paint the wax onto the skin) until they’re covered in several layers. Once your hands are waxified, a plastic glove is placed over them and wrapped in hot towels to boost the treatment’s benefits. 5. Booth Manicure:-Manicure that is given in a booth and not at the manicuring table. 6. French Manicure:-A manicure in which a band of usually white polish across the tip of the nail contrasts with the often clear or pale polish on nail bed. |

Contra - indications related to Manicure
|
Contra indications related to manicure are diseases and disorders of the natural nails and skin that may prevent or restrict a treatment. These includes : - 1. Infections disease such as - impetigo, warts, viral infections- that can be highly contagious. Manicure & artificial nail treatments should be avoided until the infection has cleared up to avoid cross infection. 2. Scabies - Never treat the client as it is highly infectious and a parasitic disease. 3. Ringworms - Don't carry out any nail treatment. 4. Cut/Abrasions- Don't give treatment until and unless the cuts has healed. 5. Swelling- Refer the client to general physician. 6. Redness - it can be prevent or restrict. Don't give the nail treatment if the client is uncomfortable |

Contra-actions related to Manicure
|
1. Erythema - Reddening of skin due to dilation of blood vessels, a reaction to external stimulus or infection- Apply cold cream 2. Allergic to nail Enamel - Redness around nail area, also places that have been touched. Watery eyes, itchy skin, rash. Remove enamel, apply cold compress to areas touched also on eyes. Tell the client if the condition doesn't improve within 24 Hrs consult general physician. 3. Allergic to oil - Rinse with water, apply cold compress and advise to consult general physician if condition doesn't ease within 24 Hrs |

After care
|
1. Wear gloves for everyday cleaning to protect the nails and avoid physical damage. 2. Apply oil onto nails and cuticles at least twice a day with appropriate oil for dry cuticles. 3. Use mild soaps and hard cleanser to wash hands as these are not too drying. 4. Apply hand cream and cuticle cream at night. 5. Use a base coat to protect nails and prevent them from becoming stained. 6. Use a richer hand cream during winter months. 7. Stop biting nails. 8. Use special type of nail polish that prevent nail biting. |
